Mark
Woodforde - 2008
Woodforde
was born in Adelaide, Australia and joined the men's professional
tour in 1994. He owns 12 Grand Slam titles and 4 singles
titles on the ATP Tour including his hometown Adelaide tournament
twice.
Mark excelled in doubles play and enjoyed the greatest
success of his career when playing doubles with fellow countryman
Todd Woodbridge. Together they made one of the most formidable
and victorious doubles partnership on tour and were known
affectionately as the "Woodies". They won a total of 11
Grand Slam Doubles tournaments, 2 French Open, 3 U.S. Open,
2 Australian Open and a record 6 Wimbledon Doubles titles.
Mark's other career high-lights include a gold medal at
the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and a Silver Medal in the 2000
Sydney Olympics. He was a member of 3 Australian Davis Cup
finals, including teaming with Woodbridge to clinch the
1999 win over France in Paris to give Australia its' first
Davis Cup in 13 years. Mark works as a color commentator
for Australian television at the Grand Slam events and also
does some coaching on the tour. Mark and his wife Erin and
two children reside in Rancho Mirage, CA.
