Martina Hingis to Headline the 2008 Esurance Tennis Classic

MILL VALLEY, CA (May 15, 2008) Former World Number one and Wimbledon Champion Martina Hingis will headline the 2008 Esurance Tennis Classic, October 10-12 at Harbor Point Tennis Club in Mill Valley, CA. The five-time Grand Slam winner will join a line-up of men and women Grand Slam legends who will compete during the weekend Celebrity Pro-Am and World Teamtennis Shoot-Out benefitting To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer Support Network & the Youth Tennis Advantage.

Born with great natural ability, Martina Hingis worked hard to live up to her namesake, Martina Navratilova. In 1997 Hingis became the youngest player ever to earn the number-one world ranking, taking the spotlight from multi Grand Slam winner Steffi Graf. She also became the youngest player in more than 100 years of tennis history to win the Australian Open Grand Slam Title. She continued to dominate women’s tennis when she added Wimbledon, U.S. Open titles, two more Australian Opens and a total of 209 weeks as World No. 1 to her trophy case.
