Jared Palmer - 2006
Jared
is an All-American Collegiate Champion at Stanford capturing
the NCAA Singles title in 1989, his Sophomore year. He was
a member of the Stanford tennis team and finished 13 in
collegiate rankings. In 1991 Jared turned professional and
competed on the ATP Tour for 15 years.
He is the winner of 3 Grand Slams Titles; 1995 Australian
Open, 2001 Wimbledon Championships and the U.S. Open Doubles
in 2001. He was also a Doubles finalist at Wimbledon in
1999 and at the U.S. Open as well. He teamed up with Donald
Johnson and the duo put together a 44-18 match record, winning
six titles together. He also owns titles with Kavelnikov,
Tarango, Adams, Haarhus, McEnroe, Knowles, Renenberg and
Todd Martin. He is the winner of an ATP Singles event in
Pinehurst, NC and was ranked as high as 35 in singles in
1994 and # 1 in doubles in March of 2000.
Jared excelled in doubles due to his quickness and great
hands at net and was ranked No 1 in doubles in 2000. Jared
was one of the most colorful players on tour and compiled
28 doubles titles to his name and was also a finalist in
23 doubles tournaments. He won with a variety of partners
being most successful with Donald Johnson.
Jared probably would have had more titles to his name if
it wasn’t for a 1995-97 injury prone years. In 1995 he underwent,
arthroscopic surgery on both knees to repair cartilage,
in 1996 a Rotator Cuff shoulder surgery and in 1997 tore
a right hamstring that took him out for the season.
Jared retired in 2005 and has gone back to Stanford University
to finish his studies in History.
