Hailing from Australia, Pat Cash began his playing career in the early 80’s learning a serve and volley game. He was the top junior in the world in 1981, and in 1982 he won Jr. Wimbledon & the U.S. Open. He turned pro later in 1982 winning his first singles titles in Melbourne. In 1983, Cash became the youngest player to play in a Davis Cup final, winning the decisive singles match to give Australia the victory over Sweden. He did so again in 1986. In 1984, Cash reached the singles finals in both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and was also a finalist in the men’s doubles and again in 1985.

In 1987, Cash reached his first Grand Slam singles final at the Australian Open, where he lost in five sets to Stefan Edberg.

The crowning moment of Cash’s career came at Wimbledon in 1987 when he won the men’s singles finals and proceeded to climb up into the Players’ Box prior to the trophy presentation on center court. He has the distinct honor to have been the first to perform this feat!
